Frequently Asked Questions

"Will I always ride the same lesson horse or pony?"

Building a consistency on one horse is helpful, but so is learning to ride different ones. Trust your instructor to assign you the horse for each lesson that she feels will best suit your individual goals and abilities.

“How quickly will I progress in my riding?”

Each student is different, and that is why Lane of Dreams’ lesson program is designed to educate students based on individual needs. Factors affecting your own progress rate include frequency of ride times, athletic ability (suppleness, muscle strength, coordination), mental attitude (positive thinking, assertiveness with the horse, motivation), as well as many other variables. It’s best to keep open communication with your instructor about your goals, and understand how the practice of basic skills contributes towards your progress. There’s one thing for sure- learning to ride well teaches us all patience and dedication!

“I’ve been taking weekly lessons. But I want to do more, What are my options?”

We suggest you talk with your instructor about additional lessons, practice rides, leasing arrangements or horse ownership to find the best option for you to stay within your time and budget parameters.

“My instructor suggested I move to a semi-private or group lesson. What is the advantage for me?”

As students advance, riding in a group becomes an excellent source of learning. You’ll benefit not only by watching other students ride, but also by listening to the instruction they receive. It’s a great way to visually see, and then to practice and feel for yourself. Also, learning to ride with others in the ring is a challenging, yet necessary, skill.
