Code of Equine Safety
Due to the basic nature of horses, certain risks are present each time you enter our facility. For your safety, as well as the safety of our horses and staff members, it is required that you understand and follow these rules at all times Thank you.
- No smoking within 30 feet of the buildings.
- Students entering the grounds must immediately check in with their instructure.
- Do not enter areas where horses are present without staff supervision or approval.
- Please do not pet and feed the horses or ponies without staff supervision or approval.
- Yield and give plenty of room to workers with equipment and to horses in the aisles.
- No strollers, scooters, bikes, umbrellas or other such items are permitted on the barn area.
- Refrain from loud noises and voices and sudden movement around the horses, including the observation room, grooming stalls and track room.
- All riders must wear ASTM-approved safety helmets when working with the horses.
Riding Clothes and Equipment
We require a few basic items for your comfort and safety
- A pair of riding boots or hard-sole shoes with at least a 1/2" heel and smooth sole.
- Straight legged long pants, jeans are fine, but no bell bottoms. However, you may find knit pants or jodhpurs, breeches and chaps more comfortable.
- In the winter, layering is suggested. Insulated socks and boots are recommended. Bulky, long coats are hard to ride in. No shorts in the summer.
- An ASTM approved helmet must be worn while working around the horses. Lane of Dreams Farm provides helmets for your use during the lesson, but we recommend you purchase your own helmet once you learn how to fit the helmet properly. We can recommend catalogs and local shops that carry equipment.
- Leather riding gloves are recommended year-round. A glove that is not too thick works best.
Cancellations
- If you are unable to make a scheduled lesson, you must give Lane of Dreams Farm a 24-hour cancellation notice. If a 24-hour notice is given, a makeup lesson may be scheduled within 30 days of the missed lesson. It is the rider's responsibility to schedule the make up lesson.
REFUNDS ARE NOT GIVEN FOR MISSED LESSONS.
- If your instructor is ill, at a horse show, or has to cancel your lesson for any reason, you will have the following options:
1) reschedule the lesson
2) ride with a different instructor
3) receive a credit for next month's session of lessons.
